Jafari Vanier

Jafari Vanier is a former Augsburg 141-pound wrestler. He wrestled for Augsburg from 2005–2007 and during 2009–10 season. At the 2006 and 2007 national championships, Vanier finished second at 133 pounds.

College career

2001–02 season

Vanier competed for NJCAA Iowa Central Community College, finishing second in the junior college national championships in 2002.

2005–06 season

Vanier made his debut for Augsburg on January 14 and 15, 2006, going 2-0 at the NWCA Division III National Duals with wins over Augustana's Dan Stanton[1] and Wisconsin-La Crosse's Kevin Barker.[2] He went 2-1 at the Northwestern College Red Raider Invitational to claim second place, with a pin over NAIA No. 2 Mike Miller of Bacone (Okla.), while loosing to No. 3 Jestin Hulegaard of Buena Vista (Iowa).[3] Vanier then lost to Division II fifth-ranked Dan Hilario of Nebraska-Omaha by a 4-1 decision.[4] Vanier then defeated Jake Helvey of Wartburg by a 8-6 decision.[5] Vanier closed out the regular season with a 14-6 major decision over Wiscon-Stevens Point's Jared Kern.[6]

At the 2006 Great Lakes Regional, he went 4-0 to earn berth in the national championships.[7] At the national championships, the unseeded Vanier went 3-1 to finish second, with all three wins coming over seeded opponents.[8] He finished the season with a 19-3 record.

2006–07 season

Vanier finished second at the 2007 national championships, going 20-2 at 133 pounds.[9]

2009–10 season

Vanier returned to compete for Augsburg at the National Duals, starting January 9, 2010. He competing at 141 pounds,[10] going 2–1. Vanier finished first at the Great Lakes Regional, though did not place at Nationals.
