He opened the tournament with three decision victories by a combined 5 points: 5–2 over D'Monte Aursby (Waldorf), 5–4 over Nico Martinez (Missouri Valley College), and 7–6 over Alex Anaya (St. Cloud State). In the title match, Bowland fell 4–0 to Alex Anaya (St. Cloud State).

Bowland began the year ranked No. 8 at 165 pounds in the d3wrestle.com rankings.[1] He opened competition with a 5th place finish at the Auggie-Brute Open on Nov. 23, going 3–1 in the 165 pound Gold Division including a 17–3 major decision over Alex Evan (St Olaf), a 7–3 loss to No. 12 (NAIA) Ishmael Rempson (William Penn), then back-to-back wins over Ochirbat Bayanjargal (St. John's) and D'Monte Aursby (Waldorf), by 10-0 major decision and 10–5 decision, respectively.[2] On Nov. 26, scored a second-straight victory over Aursby, this time by a 10–2 major decision in a home dual versus Waldorf.[3] When the Nov. 27 rankings came out, Bowland dropped to a contender in the d3wrestle.com rankings,[4] effectively ranking him 14th.[5]
