Michael Orange

Michael Orange is a former 133-pound Augsburg wrestler. In his two seasons wrestling for Ausgburg, Orange went 30–27.

High school career

Orange wrestled for Southfield High School (Mich.). In 2009, he finished third in district competition and was named team Most Valuable Player twice.[1]

College career

2009–10 season

Orange began his Augsburg career at the 2009 Auggie-Brute-Adidas Open on November 21, where he went 3-1 for third place in the 133-pound silver division. In the first round, he earned 3-2 decision over unattached wrestler Austin Cole, before claiming a 4-0 win over Morningside's Austin Cave. In the semifinals, he lost a 3-2 decision to St. Olaf's Ryan Timmerman, but won the third-place match with a 3-1 decision over Ryan Capouch (Luther).[2]

On December 12, Orange went 0-2 at the Dick Walker Invitational at Wartburg College, loosing by a 19-2 tech. fall (5:46) and a 2-0 decision to Wartburg's Tommy Mirocha and Tucker Weber, respectively. Mirocha eventually finished third.[3] At the Sunshine Open on December 28 and 29, went 0-2 in the main tournament and in the consolation tournament he went 2-1 to claim third place. In the main tournament, Orange lost his first match by fall to Central Florida's Steve DeAugustino at the 1:13 mark of the first period. In the wrestlebacks, he lost to a 10-8 to NYU's Steve Contino.[4] In the consolation tournament, Orange faced three Division II wrestlers from St. Andrews Presbyterian (N.C.). He lost the first match to Matt Fletcher by a 5-4 decision, followed by two wins by fall over Brad Mckee and Patrick Wells at the 6:38 and :34 marks, respectively.[5]

Orange began 2010 with a third-place finish at the Minnesota West Community Technical College-Worthington Open on January 16. After a first-round bye, Orange earned an 8-2 decision over Jamal McAllister (Minn.-West), before loosing in the semifinals to Iowa Lakes wrestler Tim Thurston by a tech. fall at the 3:51 mark. In the consolation semifinals, Orange earned a 12-4 major decision over teammate Dustin Holmes and a 6-3 decision over Joe Goolsby (University of Soiux Falls) in the third place match.[6]

At the 2010 North Country Open, Orange went 0-2, falling to Concordia-Moorhead's David Baker at the 4:28 mark and in the wrestlebacks to teammate Dustin Holmes by a 7-2 decision.[7] Orange closed out the year at the Blugold Invite, going 1-2. In the first round, he lost a 5-0 decision to North Central's J.T. Rowe. In the loser's bracket, he won a 2-0 decision over UW-Oshkosh's Chris Barnett, before dropping a close 6-5 decision to Ridgewater's Jacob Patnode.[8]

Orange's season record was 9–11.

2010–11 season

Orange had a 21–16 record in his second and final year as an Augsburg wrestler.
