Paul Bjorkstrand is an Augsburg 133-pound wrestler. He wrestled for Augsburg from 2005–2008 and during 2009–10 season.

[edit] 2005–06 season

Bjorkstrand made his Augsburg varsity dual debut on December 6, 2005 against Southwest Minnesota State. He lost to Ryan Reed in a 9-3 decision.[1] On January 5, Bjorkstrand pinned Adam Schlee (Augustana, S.D.) at the 2:15 mark of the first period.[2]

On November 22, 2006, Bjorkstrand earned a 7-6 decision over St. John's Tim Thompson.[3] On December 5, he earned a 14-6 major decision over Southwest Minnesota State's Michel Barrie.[4] On January 3, eighth-ranked Bjorkstrand won by forfeit in a dual meet with Augustana (S.D.).[5] On January 23, he earned a 13-6 decision over Minnesota State Moorhead's Troy MacFarland (MSUM).[6]

On December 4, 2007, Bjorkstrand earned a 14-3 major decision over Southwest Minnesota State's Ed Reno.[7] At the 2008 NWCA/Cliff Keen Division III National Duals, Bjorkstrand earned 15-0 technical fall over Johns Hopkins (Md.) wrestler Xavier Mohammed 12 seconds into the third period.[8]

Bjorkstrand began the season listed at 133 pounds.[9] At the Auggie-Brute-Adidas Open on November 21, he went 3-1, claiming the third spot in the 133-pound gold division. Bjorkstrand opened up the tournament with a 16-0 technical fall over David Crow (William Penn). He then earned a 11-0 major decision over Johnny Brennan (Wisconsin-La Crosse). He was then pinned by three-time Division I All-American Jayson Ness of the University of Minnesota. Ness—who finished third at the 2009 Division I national championships[10] and was ranked second in the nation at 133 pounds[11]—pinned Bjorkstrand 1:17 in the first period. Bjorkstrand then earned an 8-6 decision over Grandvalley's Travis Evans to claim the third-place spot.[12] On November 25, Bjorkstrand was suddenly reversed and pinned by Division II opponent Cody Lensing of Augustana (S.D.) at the 2:48 mark of the first period.[13]

On December 8, Bjorkstrand was pinned by Division II opponent Evan Forde of Minnesota State University Moorhead at the 5:49 mark. Previous to being pinned, Bjorkstrand had gone ahead of Forde 11-5, including holding him in a near-fall position for over one minute and thirty seconds in the first period.[14]
