Tommy Teigen is a current Augsburg wrestler. Teigen has spent time at 165, 174 and 184 pounds. He is a two-time national qualifier.

Teigen made his varsity debut on January 28, 2011, losing 6–4 to St. Olaf's Michael Roth at 157 pounds.[1] 10 days previous, he made his dual debut in a junior varsity match against Waldorf College (Iowa), winning by forfeit at 157 pounds.[2]

High School career

Teigen wrestled for Meadow Creek Christian in Andover, Minn. and was a three-time state qualifier in Class AA. As a sophomore in 2008 he qualified at 130 pounds, going 0–2 and finishing the year with a 32–16.[3] As a junior in 2009, Teigen qualified at 135, again going 0–2 and finishing with a 19–7 record.[4] He placed fourth at 160 pounds as a senior in 2010, going 4–2 including a semi-final loss to eventual champion Kurtis Julson.

In both 2008 and 2009, Tiegen lost at state to Augsburg teammate Boyd Suparat, who placed first and second respectively those years.

College career

2012–13 season

Teigen went 5–1 during an injury shortened 2012–13 season. He began competition on Nov. 17, 2012 at the Auggie-Brute Open, placing fifth in the 165 pound Gold Division. In his first match against Sean Huls (Wisconsin–La Crosse), Teigen claimed an 11-0 major decision. He then suffered his only loss of the season, a 6–4 decision to Div. II wrestler Colbey Vance (Upper Iowa). He then edged Morningside's Chad Morehead in the second Sudden Victory period 3–1. In the fifth-place match, he earned a 16–2 major decision over Ryan Roach (Dakota Wesleyan). On Nov. 20, Teigen made his only dual victory of the season, a 17–0 technical fall in 5:53 over Cameron Childs (Waldorf).

Teigen saw his last action of the season at the Minnesota State Univ., Moorhead Dragon Open, going 1–0, with two injury defaults not counting toward his record. In the first match, he claimed a 6–0 victory over Div. II wrestler Billy Dean (Southwestern Minnesota State). Teigen then injury defaulted out of the next match with Brock Krumm (Univ. of Mary) at 3:19 and injury defaulted out his next match without wrestling against Greg Gainey.[5] He did not compete again during the season.

2013–14 season

Teigen began the season on Nov. 23, 2013 at the Auggie-Brute Open, where he finished 5th, going 3–1. He won his first match 8–2 over Jacob Devine (Dakota Wesleyan), but fell in his second match by fall to Luther's Jarid Groth in 4:33. Teigen rebounded with two falls of his own, first in 3:49 to Austin Hayes (Buena Vista) and then in 2:14 over Garrett Miller (Rochester Comm/Tech).[6] On Nov. 26, he made it three pins in a row in a dual meet against Waldorf with a 1:30 fall over James Gomez.[7]

On Dec. 7, Teigen notched a 34d place finish at the Dragon Open with a 3–1 day. He opened the tournament with two wins over Division II wrestlers, a 7–2 decision over Conner Monk (MSU - Moorhead) and an 18–2 decision over Tiger Paasch (Minot State). In the bracket semifinal, Teigen fell 4–3 to Sebastian Gardner (Concordia-Moorhead), but rebounded in the third place match with a 14–11 decision over Taylor Lewandowski (St. Cloud State).[8] On Dec. 11, Teigen injury defaulted out of a dual meet match against MSU - Moorhead's No. 6 Michael Joseph.[9]

Teigen began the year as the starter for Augsburg at 184 pounds. He started the year as the consolation winner at the Auggie-Adidas Open, going 3–1 record. He then went 3–0 at the Wisconsin–La Crosse Candlewood Suite Duals, pinning all three of his opponents. He represented Augsburg in two dual meets against Division II opponents, first an 8–4 decision over Broderick Goens (Southwest Minnesota State) and then 6–2 over Aero Amo (Augustana (S.D.)).

At the NWCA Division III National Duals, he went 1–3, losing a 5–2 decision to No. 9 Ryan Aprahamian (Wisconsin–Whitewater), rebounded with a 6–2 decision over Caleb Huff (Alma) before dropping to more decisions. He first lost to Brent Kirk (Mount Union) by a 4–1 margin and then a tight 5–4 decision to No. 5 Richard Carlson (Wisconsin–La Crosse).

Teigen then went 3–0 in duals against MIAC opponents at the end of January, earning a maximum of 18 team points. Against Concordia on Jan. 23, he pinned Brandon Larson in 4:08[10] and then against St. John's on Jan. 25, he pinned Nick Pegelow in 2:12.[11] He picked up a forfeit victory against St. Olaf on Jan. 30.[12]

At the 2015 Battle of the Burgs, Teigen lost an 8–3 decision to eight-ranked Devin Peterson.[13]
