Personal Life

Shilson is the brother of Augsburg women's wrestler Emily Shilson.

High School career

Shilson competed for Centennial High School in Circle Pines, Minn. He was a 3-time placer at the Minnesota State individual tournament — finishing fourth at 126AAA in 2015, second at 138AAA in 2016 and fourth at 145AAA.

College career

After high school, Shilson competed for NCAA Division I University of Wisconsin–Madison during the 2017–18 season, going 16–10 as a redshirt. After one season not wrestling, Shilson competed for The University of Tennessee Chattanooga during the 2019–20 season. He ended the season with a third-place finish at the Southern Conference Wrestling Championship, finishing the season with a 12–14 record.

2020–21 season

Shilson transferred to Augsburg for the start of the 2020–21 season where he spent the majority of the season as the starter at 157 pounds. He finished the year with a 10–1 record and a third-place finish at the 2021 NWCA Division III Coaches Association National Championships.
