Roberts competed in two events during the 2008–09 season, going 2-1 at the Auggie-Brute-Adidas Open for fifth place in the 125-pound gold division.[1] Then on November 26, he lost a close 4–3 decision with St. John's Chad Henle.[2] He was subsequently injured and did not compete the rest of the season. Roberts began the 2009–10 season listed at 125 pounds.[4] After being injured most of the previous season, and receiving medical hardship from the NCAA, Roberts will have four years of eligibility left and is expected to compete normally.[3] At the Auggie-Brute-Adidas Open, Roberts went 3-1, taking second place. In the first round Roberts defeated Justin Marx (Central College) 12-5 and then Louis Mazetta (Luther College) 6-0 in the quarterfinals before upsetting top-seeded Tyler Mumbulo 5-2.
