Bjorkstrand began the season listed at 133 pounds.[1] At the Auggie-Brute-Adidas Open on November 21, he went 3-1, claiming the third spot in the 133-pound gold division. Bjorkstrand opened up the tournament with a 16-0 technical fall over David Crow (William Penn). He then earned a 11-0 major decision over Johnny Brennan (Wisconsin-La Crosse). He was then pinned by three-time Division I All-American Jayson Ness of the University of Minnesota. Ness—who finished third at the 2009 Division I national championships[2] and was ranked second in the nation at 133 pounds[3]—pinned Bjorkstrand 1:17 in the first period. Bjorkstrand then earned an 8-6 decision over Grandvalley's Travis Evans to claim the third-place spot.[4]
