John Peterson

John Peterson (born October 22, 1948) is an American wrestler and Olympic champion in freestyle wrestling and member of the Augsburg coaching staff. Peterson is a member of the Wrestling Hall of Fame.[1]

Peterson wrested for the University of Wisconsin-Stout, finishing fifth at 177 pounds at the NAIA nationals in 1971.[1][2]
[edit] Coaching career
In addition to working with Augsburg, Peterson also works with St. Cloud State University. "We are very fortunate to have John work with our student-athletes on a personal basis," Huskies coach Steve Costanzo said of Peterson. "John is a great role model and I believe our men will learn a lot from him."[3]
[edit] Olympic career
Peterson competed at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany where he received a silver medal in freestyle wrestling, the middleweight class.[4] He won a gold medal at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal.[5]
Peterson's brother, Ben Peterson, also competed in both the 1972 and 1976 Summer Olympics, also winning gold (1972) and silver (1976) medals in Freestyle wrestling.[6]
