Mark Matzek is the head coach of the Augsburg Wrestling team. As a head coach, Matzek has a 47-16-1 dual meet record through the 2012–13 season, coaching 25 All-Americans and 3 individual national titlists. A two-time individual national champion and three-time All-American wrestler during his Augsburg College career, Matzek compiled a 129-21 record.

In high school, Matzek was a two-time Wisconsin state champion.[1]

Collegiate career

As a wrestler at Augsburg, Matzek was a three-time All-American, finishing fourth in 2003 and first in 2004 and 2005, all at 133 pounds. He closed his college career with 34–0 senior season, part of a 42 match win streak to end his career.

Matzek finished his first season behind John Marchette on the depth chart.

Coaching career

Matzek served as an assistant coach with the Augsburg wrestling program from 2006 to 2008 including as assistant head coach during the 2007–08 season under head coach Sam Barber.

After Barber left the program at the conclusion of the 2007–08 season, Matzek served as the interim head coach from July 2008 to May 6, 2009. In his first season as head coach, Matzek led his time to a second place finish at the 2009 National Championships, a first place finish at the 2009 Great Lakes Regional and a 11-2 dual record in the 2008–09 season.

On May 7, 2009, the Augsburg Athletics department announced that Matzek had accept the position on a permanent basis.[2] That season, Augsburg finished first at the 2010 National Championships.
